Intercrew
Koreatown, Los Angeles, CA
Intercrew is a dramatic standout addition to the expansive Koreatown dining and nightlife family. A new venture from the LA natives who form Good Times, LLC, the dining and entertainment venue occupies over 10,000 square feet in the historic Morgan Adams Building on Wilshire Blvd.
Built as a high-end furrier in 1929, the Morgan Adams Building has been restored and re-imagined as an immersive experience for Intercrew’s guests by LA design firm Studio Como. The design of the multi-story interior space highlights its original Art Deco details while layering on thoughtfully designed elements to craft a modern restaurant and lounge.
With multiple levels to explore as well as three separate bars and dining rooms, the owners wanted to provide guests with a transportive journey over the course of their night. In order to achieve this, Studio Como designed each room with its own distinct furniture and material palette.
The main dining room features a horseshoe bar and arced banquette seating. “The original curved grand staircase and fluted walls make a big statement - we echo that in the sweeping lines of the banquettes.” says Blaire McPherson, Co-Founder of Studio Como. “The space was already beautiful and dramatic, so it was important to us to make design moves that honored that.”
A step up the stairs takes guests to a quieter, more intimate experience. Peppered with VIP lounge areas the loft is full of nooks and crannies for chance encounters, including a golden hued VIP area that overlooks the main dining room.
Separating the main dining room the adjacent lounge venue is a custom built arched door by Art Factory in Arizona. The solid cypress door is over eleven feet tall and features more than 500 hand forged iron clavos and a hand distressed finish.
“There’s a lot of beautiful plaster work on the walls and ceiling that we used as inspiration for the strong geometric details you see throughout the space.“ says Loren Perry, Co-Founder of Studio Como.
These details are evident in the faceted Mutina tile on the face of the main bar as well as the prismatic mirror wall that greets guests as they enter the space. In addition, Art Deco inspired wallpapers and decorative lighting pair with the furniture sourced from all over the world to create a truly one of a kind space.
